Sheet masks are one of the simplest and most relaxing parts of Korean skincare. Each one is a single-use sheet soaked in a concentrated essence — effectively a serum treatment you wear for ten minutes. Used well, they leave skin hydrated, soft and glowing by morning.
How to use a sheet mask, step by step
- Cleanse. Start with a clean face so the essence can reach your skin. A gentle cleanser like Round Lab Soybean Panthenol Cleanser is ideal.
- Tone. A quick layer of toner helps prepare the skin. Skip exfoliating acids on mask nights if your skin is sensitive.
- Apply the mask. Unfold it, line up the eye and mouth holes first, then smooth it outwards from the centre to remove air bubbles.
- Relax for 10–20 minutes. Follow the time on the pack. Don't leave it on until it dries out — a drying sheet can start pulling moisture back from your skin.
- Pat in the leftover essence. Remove the mask and gently pat the remaining essence into your face and neck. There's usually extra in the packet too — use it on your neck, chest or hands.
- Seal it in. Finish with your usual moisturiser to lock in all that hydration.
How often should you use a sheet mask?
Most hydrating and soothing masks are gentle enough for daily use, which is why many Korean routines include a mask several nights a week. Two to three times a week is a great starting point. Masks with stronger actives, such as retinol, are best used less often — check the pack.
Which mask should you choose?
- For dry or tired skin: Mediheal Collagen Essential Mask or the Mediheal Ceramide Essential Mask for barrier support.
- For an overnight-style treat: the Biodance Bio-Collagen Real Deep Mask, a hydrogel mask that turns nearly clear as it absorbs.
- For dullness and uneven tone: Some By Mi Yuja Niacin Blemish Care Serum Mask or Some By Mi Galactomyces Glutathione Glow Serum Mask.
- For redness or sensitive skin: Mediheal Pure Calming Mask or Some By Mi Real Cica Calming Care Mask.
- For a healthy glow: Mediheal Rose PDRN Essential Mask.
Tips for better results
- Chill it. Keep a mask in the fridge for an extra-refreshing, de-puffing feel.
- One mask, one use. Sheet masks are designed for single use — don't save one for later once opened.
- Mix and match. Many people keep a few different masks and pick one depending on how their skin feels that day.
A sheet mask is a small habit that makes a real difference to how your skin looks and feels — and ten minutes to yourself at the end of the day doesn't hurt either.
